Let's say a total 
guests came to the wedding.
We know that 1/3 of them chose beef. How can you mathematically express 1/3 of the total in terms of ?
We know that 5/12 of them chose chicken. How can you mathematically express 5/12 of the total in terms of ?
We know that 23 of them chose vegetarian. We are not saying that some fraction of the total chose vegetarian, since we are giving the exact number, so you don't need to try and express this in terms of T -- keep it as it is.
Then add up the three things you just answered, and you should end up with the total amount of people that came, ie .
This should yield a linear equation in which you can solve.

You can calculate the proportion of guests that 23 represents. Divide 23 by that to get the total number of guests.
Your answer should be in the range 90-100.
The easiest way is to add 1/3 and 5/12 to get 9/12 =3/4
That leaves 1/4 who chose vegetarian.
23 = 1/4 so 4/4 = 4 x 23 = 92
